You can’t put your new blog online if there aren’t any posts, so instead of a “Hello World” type post, you get this silly little post inspired by creative twitter bots that I used to enjoy nearly a decade ago. Examples include tiny gallery, Emoji Meadow and tiny protests. The scene lost a lot of momentum after Twitter decided to restrict their API, but some of the artists are still active on mastodon. Initially a lot of them moved to the beautifully named botsin.space instance, but hosting federated social media comes with it’s own set of challenges and the instance shut down in 2024.

Enjoy this tiny static forest:

Show code
library(stringr)
tree <- c("🌲", "🌲","🌲","🌲",#"🌴", "🌵",
          "🪵",
          "    ",
          "🦌",
          "🦊",
          "🍃", "🍂",
          "🌳", "🌳" , "🌳", "🌳", "🌳", "🌳")
forest <- sample(tree, 140, replace = T) %>% str_flatten()
